CURRENT PROGRESS

Building site

A 19-acre DLNR-leased parcel near the 9-mile marker on Highway 130 outside Pāhoa has been secured for the medical campus and is currently home to the Kīpuka medicinal garden.

​Public Support and Funding

The Puna Community Medical Center Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and has received State of Hawaiʻi Grants-in-Aid totaling several hundred thousand dollars. The Foundation continues to coordinate with state and federal leaders, including State Representative Greggor Ilagan and U.S. Senator Brian Schatz, to advocate for Puna and secure the remainder of the needed funds.

Surveying, engineering, and architectural preparation for the medical campus is nearing completion. Zoning approvals and final mapping are now underway with DLNR, with attention to minimizing disturbance to native vegetation.
